LOCKPORT, Ill. – The No. 2 Vanderbilt bowling team is in 10th on the Storm Flyer Classic leaderboard after winning two, dropping three matches on Day 1 at Strike & Spare II in Lockport, Illinois.
“Today was a day we haven’t had this year,” head coach John Williamson said. “We had three losses and were tied going into Game 5 in one and leading the other two and didn’t finish Game 5 at a high level. We just have to be better tomorrow.”
Vanderbilt started off its day with a 1,024-963 loss to No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Dores managed to pull out the win over Indianapolis in Round 2 but only totaled 866 pins, hurting their overall standing, which is determined by total pinfall.
Round 3 versus Oklahoma Christian was a tighter matchup, but Vandy would fall 1,050-1,047.
The Commodores beat Lewis 1,050-858 in Round 4.
To end the day, Vanderbilt fell to No. 3 Jacksonville State 1,103-1,067.
Day 2 of the Storm Flyer Classic continues Saturday at 9:25 a.m. with the first of five traditional matches. Fans can watch the event on YouTube and follow Vanderbilt bowling on X at @VandyBowling for updates.
