Lim Matches Program Record

Lynn Lim highlights day with 8-under 64

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Lynn Lim matched the Vanderbilt record for low individual round with an 8-under 64 in the first 18 holes at the Yale Invitational West. The Commodores finished the two-round opening day in sixth at even par on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

In the day’s opening round, Lim fired her 8-under masterpiece to lead the field through 18. The junior tallied six birdies and an eagle in her lowest career round. Lim sits tied for second overall, two strokes off the lead, heading into Tuesday’s final round.

“That round by Lynn has been in the making for a long, long time,” head coach Greg Allen said. “She has hit the ball so good for most of career and it was nice to finally see the putts drop. She may have more patience than anyone. Unfortunately, she was the bright spot for us in the morning and then North Carolina lit it up this afternoon.”

Tillie Claggett finished the first round at 1-over with three birdies on her card. Angelina Tolentino went 3-over in her first trip around the course while Charlene Chung and Sara Im both posted 6-over 78 cards. Freshman Claire Hensen finished the first round 5-over playing as an individual.

In the day’s second round, Claggett and Im led the way with 1-under 71 cards as Vanderbilt posted a 2-under 286. Lim and Tolentino both posted even-par rounds in their second trip around the circuit. Chung rounded out the lineup with a 1-over 73 while Henson carded a 1-under 71 in her second round.

It was nice to see Sara get things turned around and post and under-par round,” said Allen. “She obviously struggled at the Darius and in the morning round, so the afternoon was a nice confidence boost for her.”

Through two rounds, Lim sits 8-under and in a tie for second while Claggett ranks 21st at even par. Tolentino is 34th at 3-over-par and fellow freshman Henson stands 40th at 4-over. Im is 5-over through 36 holes, good for 43rd, and Chung sits 49th.

“We need each girl to take ownership of her round tomorrow and let’s see what happens,” Allen said in looking forward to Tuesday’s finale.

North Carolina leads the field at 22-under with Kansas in second at 12-under. The Dores trail third-place Princeton by six strokes entering the final 18.

Vanderbilt will tee off at 10:15 a.m. CT in Tuesday’s final round. Live scoring is available on SCOREBOARD.
