Claggett Heats Up

Vanderbilt in sixth at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Tillie Claggett’s 3-under-par performance on Tuesday shot her into a tie for third on the individual leaderboard at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. With one round remaining, Vanderbilt sits in sixth place following a 9-over 293 team score in the second round.

“It was really nice to see Tillie put together the low round of the day,” said head coach Greg Allen. “She literally carried us today and has put herself in a great position for tomorrow.”

Claggett holed five birdies and an eagle on hole No. 3 in the second round.  Ava Merrill, tied for seventh individually, notched a 3-over 74. Angelina Tolentino matched her with a 74, nailing four birdies. Lynn Lim shot a 77. Sara Im carded a 79 and individual Charlene Chung had a 78.

“I felt like we didn’t take advantage of the early tee time on the front nine,” said Allen. “We made some careless bogeys. Ava and Angelina weren’t as sharp today as yesterday, but they really hung in there and got the most out of their rounds.”

Vanderbilt is just six strokes away from a podium finish and is just a single shot behind fifth place Wake Forest. Arkansas and South Carolina are tied for first place at 5-over.

“We’re excited about the opportunity before us tomorrow,” said Allen. “We’ve talked about embracing the challenge of the moment and the conditions.”

With high wind forecasted for Wednesday, tee times have moved earlier in the morning. The Commodores will start their final round with Arizona State and Wake Forest at 6:20 a.m. CT. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
