NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf hits the west coast for the two-day, 54-hole Yale Invitational West at PGA West in La Quinta, California, beginning Monday.
PGA West Norman Course is teed to play at 6,176 yards and par 72. The field will play two rounds on Monday before taking the course for the final round on Tuesday morning.
“We’re excited to jump right back into action after a really short turnaround from the Darius last week,” head coach Greg Allen said. “Unfortunately, we’ll be competing without Ava this week. Her back wasn’t 100-percent at the Darius and we didn’t think the trip across the country to play 36 on Monday would be best for her. So, needless to say, this is a great opportunity for someone to step up.”
The No. 12-ranked Commodores will send six golfers to PGA West. Tillie Claggett, Lynn Lim, Sara Im, Charlene Chung and Angelina Tolentino will make up the Vanderbilt scoring lineup. Freshman Claire Henson will compete as an individual in her first event of the spring.
“Charlene will step in for Ava and if she can play with confidence, she’s got a chance to really help us this week,” Allen said. “We’re hoping Lynn can carry the momentum of her final round Wednesday and Tillie is really close to getting back to playing her kind of golf. Angelina continues to get more comfortable and Sara didn’t have her best stuff at Long Cove, but I fully expect her to do her thing this week.”
Vanderbilt leads the field alongside No. 15 North Carolina. Eight additional teams competing rank in the top 75 of the latest CLIPPD rankings. The 12-team field also includes Cal, Grand Canyon, Kansas, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Oklahoma State, Princeton, San Diego State, Virginia Tech and Yale.
The Commodores will tee off in a shotgun start at 7:15 a.m. PT Monday. Live scoring for the tournament is available through SCOREBOARD.
