Maddie Barkate registers 10 draw controls

DENVER — Lauren Black led all scorers with four goals as Denver tops Vanderbilt 17-8 on Sunday afternoon at the Peter Barton Lacrosse Complex.

Vanderbilt (1-2) had five different goal scorers, led by Brooke Baker who posted her second hat trick of the season. Maddie Barkate registered her second straight contest with at least nine draw controls, finishing with 10 to become the first Commodore with at least 10 draws in a game since Brianne Gross against Mercer (3/3/21). Molly Joyce posted 14 saves, a career best.

Denver (1-2) picked up its first win of the season, with goals from 10 players. Raegan Wilson led the Pioneers with six points, off five assists and one goal. Black and Ryan Dineen each had five points, combining for six goals and four assists. In cage Emelia Bohi posted 10 saves.

Vandy hits the road on Wednesday, visiting Mercer at noon CT.
