No. 16 Vanderbilt women's tennis stays hot with 5-2 victory over Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 16 Vanderbilt women’s tennis extended its win streak to 10 in a 5-2 takedown of Arkansas on Friday.

The Dores collected their 10th doubles point out of 12 total matches to begin the match. No. 9 senior Célia-Belle Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster grabbed a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, their sixth straight victory together. Sophomore Valeria Ray and freshman Trinetra Vijayakumar sealed the point at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 defeat of Jimena Gomez Alonso and Katarina Pavlechova. Ray and Vijayakumar also continued their doubles streak, which now sits at seven.

Mohr and Webster brought the energy in singles for Vanderbilt. Webster notched the first singles win of the day over Gomez Alonso 6-2, 6-4 while No. 44 Mohr downed No. 55 Carolina Gomez 7-5, 6-4. The result gives Mohr a team-high four ranked singles victories this season. Grace O’Donnell captured a point for the Razorbacks after a back-and-forth 6-3, 7-6 (7) win against Vijayakumar. No. 35-ranked Junior Bridget Stammel delivered the match point for the Dores with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 victory over Pavlechova. The final win of the day belonged to Ray at No. 2 singles, who generated her 15th straight. Ray’s singles streak is now five away from tying the program record.

Vanderbilt remains one of three schools with a perfect record against SEC opponents thus far, along with No. 1 Georgia and No. 8 LSU. The Commodores face a slew of ranked opponents in their upcoming schedule; eight of the 11 remaining matches are against current top-25 teams. Mohr’s ranked win gives Vandy its eighth in total, as well as three in doubles play.
