No. 16 Vanderbilt welcomes No. 9 Texas in conference clash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 16 Vanderbilt women’s tennis looks for a bounce back win in a top-25 matchup against No. 9 Texas at home on Friday.

The Dores saw their 10-match win streak snapped by Oklahoma 5-2 on Sunday. It marks the first loss for Vanderbilt since falling 4-1 to UCSB on Jan. 25. No. 119-ranked sophomore Valeria Ray continues her singles win streak despite the result from Norman, which currently sits at 15. She is just five wins away from tying the program record for consecutive singles victories. No. 44-ranked senior Célia-Belle Mohr brings a streak of her own into Friday after collecting her eighth straight win over the Sooners’ No. 34 Alina Shcherbinina. Mohr now leads the Dores in ranked singles wins with five while also owning the most ranked doubles wins with two.

Texas comes into Nashville having lost two matches in a row, falling to Florida and No. 11 Auburn. The Longhorns are 3-5 against top-25 opponents this season. The two programs last squared off in 2015, with Vanderbilt taking the match 5-0. Carmen Herea is the highest-ranked Longhorn at No. 30, while No. 78 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo paces the team in singles wins with 18. Anazagasty-Pursoo along with Ashton Bowers make up the No. 29-ranked doubles duo.
